Breastfeeding Awareness Week – Department of Community Medicine - 1st to 7th August 2024

Every year 1st week of August is celebrated as World Breastfeeding week to raise awareness about need for exclusive breastfeeding among women and their families.

According to recent WHO estimates, only 44% of the infants aged 0-6 months worldwide were exclusively breastfed over the period of 2015-2020. Anti-Ragging Day Week: 18th August 2023

Anti-Ragging Day and Week, a crucial observance that underscores our commitment to fostering a safe and nurturing environment within our educational institution. Ragging, a practice that once may have been viewed lightly, has now rightfully evolved into an unacceptable and reprehensible act.

In the context of medical colleges, preventing ragging is not only a moral imperative but a critical step towards nurturing future healthcare professionals who embody compassion, ethics, and empathy. To ensure a ragging-free environment, we must adopt a multi-faceted approach that encompasses education, awareness, and robust enforcement.

Strategies to Reduce Ragging:

1. Sensitization Programs:

  • Organize workshops and seminars on the psychological and emotional impact of ragging, encouraging empathy among students.
  • Invite experts to discuss the legal implications of ragging, raising awareness about the serious consequences perpetrators may face.

2. Mentorship Programs:

  • Implement a mentorship system where senior students are assigned as mentors to guide and support newcomers, reducing the chances of isolation and victimization.
  • Encourage mentor-mentee interactions through regular meetings and open communication channels.

3. Establishing Clear Policies:

  • Develop comprehensive anti-ragging policies that clearly define prohibited activities and outline disciplinary measures for violators.
  • Ensure that students and faculty members are well-informed about the policies and consequences of ragging.

4. Anonymous Reporting Mechanisms:

  • Create anonymous reporting platforms, such as hotlines or online forms, for students to report instances of ragging without fear of retaliation.
  • Establish a dedicated committee to handle and investigate reported cases promptly and confidentially.

5. Strengthening Counseling Services:

  • Enhance psychological and counseling services on campus to provide support to victims and potential perpetrators.
  • Raise awareness about the availability of counseling resources and reduce the stigma associated with seeking help.

6. Collaborative Initiatives:

  • Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies to ensure the enforcement of anti-ragging laws and regulations.
  • Partner with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working against ragging to leverage their expertise and resources.

William Shakespeare birth anniversary: 23rd April, 2019.

Shakespeare’s plays has good medical relevance s, one of the plays “Macbeth” was chosen for this context which highlights the mental illness seen in the characters.Mental illnesses that echo throughout the play are fairly obvious, Macbeth was a military man who suffered from post traumatic stress disorder, generalised anxiety disorder and schizophrenia .Lady Macbeth also suffered from similar mental health issues, with some specialists speculating that she suffered from bipolar disorder, post partum depression or borderline personality disorder. In today’s day and age with the changing lifestyles and the fast paced environment, it’s no shock that mental illnesses are at an all time high. With this play light was shed on the illnesses that some of the characters suffered from while simultaneously bring awareness on diseases that are still so under diagnosed and overlooked.

The play was coordinated by Dr. V. Sailaja, Prof of Pathology and done by II MBBS students (2017 batch):Vaishnavi Kanisetti ,Kavyashreya ,Harshavardhan V ,Akanksha S ,Ankush Mallik ,Sreedevi Kumar,Ramya Kilaru ,Samhita K, Rashika Reddy ,Aryaman Singh ,Ateeqa Noorain ,Deepthi Grace M, U Sherly Florence,Dimple Siri Chandana ,Srilekha Puli ,Sai Mallik Gundlapally ,Swapnil Datar ,Roshni K, Bhargavi P ,Akhil Goud ,Swadha Shivam ,Sairam Yadati ,Rohini Kunta ,J Chanakya, ,Vidhi Shah ,Swetha Surapaneni ,Vignesh Srikumar ,Rohan Potluri ,Sanjana Waghray
